Generation Z’s Adoption Of New Technology Spells A New Era For Entertainment
Generation Z has been at the forefront of technological shifts in our lifestyle and media habits through the mass adoption of several elements within the web3 universe, as well as through commercial generation using web2 mechanics. New research from Vice Media Group and Publicis Groupe’s Razorfish agency also supports this theory.
The recent study titled The Metaverse: A View from Inside found that generation Z are spending more time in Metaverse-related scenarios and have a closer relationship with their online selves than any generation prior. 57% of respondents said they felt freer to express themselves online than in real life while 45% declared that their digital identity was a more accurate interpretation of their character.
The definition of the Metaverse in the modern-day sense – without the incoming potential mass adoption of the generic concept – is positioned heavily around multiplayer gaming, which has been an arena utilized in games such as Fortnite for many years now. Early Metaverse revenue models so far are driven by the purchase of digital goods in the form of wearables or in-game rewards in the form of NFTs.
There is a noted decrease in gaming from an overall populous perspective after the age of 18, across both the millennial and generation x eras. The consensus at present is that younger millennials and generation z will further adopt the digital sphere well into adulthood. Potentially making it a specific part of their businesses or daily lifestyles.
Brands are set to be positioned to take advantage of this the most, and will likely be a first-mover to react in real-time to the market and lifestyle trends of their consumers. The concept of having digital elements of a brand in a metaverse or across gaming was also seen as a potentially viable option for Gen Z respondents.
According to popular Gen Z social influencer and co-founder of Mozverse, Zach Hirsch, his generation’s push into the digital world will not be an aberration.
“Young people have a much bigger hand in dictating trends than any other segment of society,” said Hirsch. “Whether that be through pop culture or as consumers we are seen as the primary target audience for brands, corporations, and businesses globally.”
“We are definitive trendsetters, and I think that’ll only elevate with our adoption of the metaverse. The generation after us will continue the trend I feel.”
Three years ago Hirsch launched his Instagram account @ipickwins. He consistently picked over ninety percent of the games right. A host of celebrities and influencers began to follow his picks including Jake Paul, Floyd Mayweather, Nate Burleson, Clinton Portis, Jadakiss, Fetty Wap, Bob Menery, Shane Mosley, Rashad Evans and Mike Leach.
Hirsch gained a reputation for going against most of the more established handicappers and picking longshots. He had the LA Rams as his sleeper Super Bowl pick before the start of the last NFL Season and picked Dmitry Bivol to upset prohibitive favorite, Canelo Alvarez on the recent Fight Guys Podcast.
Today his Instagram account has over a million verified followers which he has now leveraged to co-found Mozverse with tech entrepreneur Danny Mozlin, a start-up that specializes in developing custom NFT marketplaces and Metaverse projects.
“Of all the picks I’ve made I’m most confident about Mozverse. I’m all in on NFTs, Web3, and the Metaverse.” Said Hirsch.
Hirsch was also recently cast to co-host Worldstar Hip-hop’s Sports Podcast with rapper, Jadakiss. The Kiss and The Myst format is a combination of sports and culture, and each episode features a different celebrity guest. They are currently filming in Miami after the season’s debut episodes were shot in New York.
“Pairing Zach as Jada’s co-host was a bit of a risk because of his lack of experience but after filming one episode I knew it was a great decision. Both guys know sports in different ways and they play off each other. It’s been great working with them and watching them bond. I call them the modern Odd Couple and see the show being a big success.” said Daniel Cotton Chief Operating Officer of Worldstar and Executive Producer of the show.
On his current pursuits and the integration of digital projects amongst his generation and others, Hirsch said, “I think sports, entertainment and business are all starting to fuse and the metaverse is the future home of it all. That’s why I’m so excited about Mozverse.”
