The brutal murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in broad daylight sent shockwaves across the country a few months ago. The singer was shot dead by a few assailants while he was driving his black Mahindra Thar in his village Mansa on May 29th. Seven months after the incident, the Mahindra Thar, in which Moosewala was shot, has been handed over by the police to the family of the singer.

In a video uploaded by ‘The Tribune’, Balkaur Singh, father of Sidhu Moosewala, is seen getting emotional after seeing the black-coloured Mahindra Thar with fire shots on its front windscreen. The Thar was taken into custody by the police for further investigations of the murder case of Sidhu Mossewala. After the investigations got completed, the police handed over the Thar back to his father.

Thar not repaired

In the video, we can see that the fire shots on the front windscreen of the SUV are still intact, with no other damage to the exteriors. However, the interiors of the Thar do not look in great shape, as they are covered in dust. It might have been possible, since the Thar was not used for a long time, since the day of the murder. The inner door cover of the co-passenger side is also seen missing, with exposed wiring and joints inside it.

The Mahindra Thar, in which Moosewala was travelling when the shooting happened, is a heavily-customized version of the first-generation model of the SUV. It was used by Moosewala specifically on the roads of Mansa, his parental village. The Thar is modified with several after-market components like off-road spec fat tyres, alloy wheels, a huge front bull bar, customized front and rear bumpers, and a customized mounting for the spare wheel and tyre behind the rear door.

This Thar also gets add-on aftermarket LED headlamps, auxiliary lights on the lower edges of the A-pillar and an LED light bar on the roof. On the inside, the Thar is seen with custom floor mats and upholstery work, along with the front-facing rear seats, music system and seat covers.

The first-generation Mahindra Thar is a popular vehicle in Punjab, which is still preferred by many for its endless customization possibilities. Known for its rugged looks, muscular stance and durable mechanicals, the first-generation Mahindra Thar was a basic vehicle in terms of its equipment levels. This version of the Thar was available only with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. However, the first-gen Thar was replaced with an all-new heavily-reworked second-generation model in 2020.
