The Center for Healthy Living is Westminster at Lake Ridge’s newest innovation — enhancing the living experience for current and future residents. Westminster at Lake Ridge is a not-for-profit life plan community offering independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, respite services, home care and rehabilitation services.
Michelle Ferry, director of sales at Westminster at Lake Ridge, said that Ingleside’s life plan community has always offered a variety of health and wellness opportunities. However, the Center for Healthy Living is new and includes the latest amenities and design trends in over 30,000 square feet.
“The goal is to enhance the living experience for those who live here now, as well as those continuing to move to Westminster at Lake Ridge,” Ferry said.
The Center for Healthy Living enhances the community’s holistic wellness lifestyle, an approach that supports the whole person.
“All of our life plan communities, including Ingleside at Rock Creek in DC and Ingleside at King Farm in Rockville, Maryland, are committed to providing a holistic wellness lifestyle no matter what level of care an individual needs,” Ferry said. “Physical health is just one component of total wellness, a lifelong goal that enables us to live a balanced, active and engaged life.”
Ferry said Westminster at Lake Ridge supports residents in addressing the Dimensions of Wellness, which consider all the elements that interact and contribute to a healthy individual. It embraces social, emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, occupational and environmental wellness.
The Center for Healthy Living offers a multifunctional studio for art, fitness, education, a technology learning center and a new library and reading room. It also includes a fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and locker rooms, an indoor saltwater pool and jacuzzi and more.
“Many residents are actively involved in growing the outdoor community garden,” she said. “So we wanted to bring the beauty of our 60-plus acre community indoors and provide residents the enjoyment of gardening year-round. Our residents can now enjoy the lovely indoor greenhouse.”
What does a resident have to say?
Emery Chase, a Westminster at Lake Ridge resident, spoke about the new Center for Healthy Living.
“My wife and I moved to Westminster at Lake Ridge almost four years ago because it offered a full range of amenities for engaged living,” Chase said. “We had resided in an ‘Over 55 Community’ before moving to a life plan community and had come to expect those amenities and programs that support a healthy living style.”
He starts every morning with a brisk walk to the Center’s fitness center and a short workout.
“My wife and I are part of the ‘Morning Glory’ team on the Appalachian Trail challenge and are regular participants in opportunities planned by the community’s Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, including fitness classes for all levels, including ones in the pool,” he said. “We enjoyed the on-campus scavenger hunts in the past and are looking forward to the Senior Olympics where we are registered for the one-mile walk. The camaraderie with other residents is amazing!”
Ferry encourages those interested in taking a tour to contact Ingleside at 703-783-4355 or email [email protected].
